2022 preview | plants!

Hello 2022 and hello to you! I hope your year is starting out OK friends (or as “OK” as it can be, when life is still far from normal).

Happily, I’ve been using all the downtime to do some extra preparation for the year to come. Excited to introduce you to some of the new pieces for 2022.

Here’s what’s planned for 2022:

  • Earrings galore: I love making them, and you’ve loved buying them in 2021 (thank you!). While the last year was all about circle shapes, this year I’ll be prototyping a few new shapes and colours. Right now, I’m playing with black clay, gold glaze and some more ‘pebble’ like shapes. I’m also hoping to bring out a new collection of earrings in my smallest-ever size, perfect for everyday wear.

  • Slip-cast planters: I’ve been trying my hand at slip-casting, a method of creating porcelain pieces from liquid, and made into consistent forms using a plaster mold. I’m just getting the hang of it, after taking a short workshop a long time ago (you can see my first, woeful, hilarious attempt in the bottom-right of this photo from the good folks at the Forty-Nine Studio).

I’ve been having a ball with a few new molds. As well as the planters, I have a few trial bowls, trays and mugs on the way. But I have to say, it’s the planters that I’m really excited by.

Little known fact: Pattern & Patch was named for the patterns and details I love adding to everyday objects and for the garden patches I’ve loved making. Back in the first market stalls I did, I sold both succulents and porcelain goods. The last three or four years have been much more about learning everything about clay bodies, and mastering porcelain. But in 2022… I think I’m going back to my roots (terrible pun intended).

Excited for the year to come. Follow along on Instagram to keep an eye on the planters as they’re finished, and to find out more about where to snag one.

For the time being, I’ll be here: taking a little break out of town and by the beach. Hope you get some sun, too.
